Over time I have accumulated enormous amounts of passwords, license keys and other important information. Now and again I also like to shop online and due to security reasons I use a different password with every shop. When I was looking for a program with a secure database I found a company called MATESO GmbH. For over 10 years the MATESO GmbH develops and distributes software for password and identity management. According to MATESO the program Password Safe has become one of the standard features in German-speaking areas. I have had a detailed look at its current version. Just to make sure
In a database the software Password Safe manages all data to be protected. This database will be created by assigning a name just after program installation. In the next step the database will be secured with a password. Of course the program takes care that a secure and strong password is used. Weak passwords cannot be saved in the first place. This password is the only one which you will have to remember in the future. After finishing that the main program interface appeared. This reminded me a lot of Outlook 2007. It offers an excellent interface structure and is easy to use. Very striking on the startup screen are the provided folders such as Email, Mobile, Home banking, Internet, Passwords and software licenses. Within these folders one’s personal access data can be collected and saved. The input interface is always adjusted according to different requirements. Email access data from an Internet provider, for example, differ from those of a mobile provider and therefore have different input interfaces and database entry fields. I like that very much, because most password management software only offers few database fields which in practice are very often insufficient. Password Safe is even more flexible and dynamic so that you can determine yourself which field a necessary for a certain dataset. This way you can customize the data structure yourself. If you would like to record additional data, just extend the form, for example by adding a customer ID. Due to this one can certainly assume that the program will be also of great use in future years.



What else is there?
Definitely a lot more! Here I would like to point out the integrated document administration. With Password Safe you can easily organize and set a password for your most important documents. A document can have any file format. If you then edit a document, Password Safe automatically realizes this and the document can be updated in the database. When doing this, the documents will undergo versioning so that you are always able to also access an older version of your document.



Summary:
Password Safe really surprised me. I expected a program with which I can manage my passwords and maybe also Internet access data. But Password Safe really turned out to be a true all-rounder for the management of sensitive data. I especially liked the flexibility of the Safe database. Due to the adaptability of the database fields in this software, you are also well prepared for future management applications. The Password Safe receives an “absolutely recommendable“ from me.
